 The Jason Helms Band is an alternative country anomoly. Formerly known as NewJack and the Rippers, JHB electrifies stages with a mixture of finely honed songwriting, hell-raising stage performances, and virtuosic musicianship. That’s right folks, you gotta come see it to believe it!
Jason “NewJack” Helms is a singer-songwriter with a knack for spinning tales of life and love, and razor-sharp witty lyricism that will keep the listener finding new meaning to his songs with each listen. A God-fearing father and devoted husband, Jason crafts his home and life experiences into heartfelt songs, infusing them with an honesty that is rarely seen amongst the throngs of would-be red dirt/texas country poseurs that inhabit the alternative country scene of today. The songs produced here are infused with a realness that recalls hints of Bruce Robison, Steve Earle and Jack Ingram. You may not walk a mile in his shoes, but listen long enough and you will feel each callous and blister, only to find yourself wincing with each painful step and rejoicing with every triumph.

Dan Nash, 28, of Heavylefthand is about to release his debut album, much to the excitement of his growing army of fans. The development of Dan’s unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that Dan was always surrounded by different forms of music.

He got his first guitar at 12 and his grandfather taught him a few chords. Dan began his true musical journey when he first heard Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and he began to learn the guitar riffs and the crazy drum beats of the newly popular alternative rock. Without truly realizing the importance of repetition in learning to be a musician, Dan played his guitar every day. In the morning before he went to school, he played the guitar. In the afternoons when he got home from school, he played the guitar. And always before he went to bed at night, he played the guitar.

Dan began writing his own material and forming his own unique sound around the age of 16. By this time he had already formed his first band and had his first gig. Dan graduated from his small town high school and soon moved to Northern Arkansas, where he now lives, following his future wife as she pursued her education. Dan took a hiatus from playing for awhile but the need to write and perform was always there. Dan picked up his guitar again and the result is the soon to be released CD, “Over The Counter”. This album rocks hard, speaks softly and carries a big stick.

Little Rock, Arkansas, might not be the first place you would look for young, new talent in country music.  But thats exactly where you’ll find Ryan Couron, a twenty-year-old singer-songwriter who is turning heads with the release of his first promotional album in February 2006.  The simply-titled Pre-Release album includes five original songs, one of which is already getting radio airplay across the United States and Canada and throughout Europe.

Ryan Couron’s songs authentically reflect his love of country life.  His youthful exuberance and down-home goodness show themselves in the songs Huntin or Fishin, Saddle Up and Dirty.  His beautiful ballad, Heaven, showcases the soothing vocals that are sure to become his trademark.  Of course, all country singers need a good drinkin song, says Ryan, so we wrote The Drinkin Song. Its fun and funny.

In live performances, Ryan brings a fresh, unpretentious personality to the stage.  He captivates audiences with his natural humor, infectious smile, clear, commanding voice and distinctive Southern edge.  In addition to local gigs, Ryan performs at Johnnie Highs Country Music Revue in Arlington, Texas  the same place well-known singers like LeeAnn Rimes and LeeAnn Womack began their careers.  His first appearance there in mid-2005 evoked a thunderous ovation from the audience.  Since then, Ryan Couron has been invited back to numerous Saturday night shows as the headline performance.

 

Ryan says that his music is greatly influenced by his favorite performers: Chris LeDoux, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson and Hank Williams, Jr.  But he hopes his songs will make their own mark in the country music world.  “I know its a long road ahead, but Im determined to stay on it.”

 

As he searches for a record label contract and financial backing, his dedication is already paying off with the release of this first album.  And with the help of promoter Doug DeForest, Ryans popular song Saddle Up has made its way to a compilation CD distributed by Rick Stancil of Texas Country Artists.

 

Who would have guessed that this laid-back country performer began singing at the age of sixteen as a cantor for his church after completing Gregorian Chant classes at a Catholic seminary?  It was this early vocal discipline that helped form the clear, true tones you hear in Ryans voice today.  But his passion for country life and his talents in piano and guitar bind him tightly to the country music hes loved all his life.

Ryan Couron met co-writer John Connor McInnis while they worked together as teenage ranch hands.  In no time they discovered their mutual love of music and started to compose their own songs.  Ryan began singing those songs for friends and was soon fielding requests to stage live performances.  Then his true genius for entertaining showed.

 

Ryan doesnt simply sing to his audience.  He serenades each person as if no one else were there.  Over an incredibly short two-year span, he has captured an impressively loyal fan base.  His talents and fans continue to feed his desire for a full-time music career.

Working Together To Make A Better Music Scene

Now this is a pretty touchy subject so we’ll try to hit the highlights. The music industry is very cut throat.. A number of bands have found this out to be true just playing their first few gigs around their local towns. How we know this, we are in bands too.

First and foremost bands are considered a dime a dozen anywhere to most and can be replaced instantly in the music business.

This thinking comes from folks wanting to make a quick buck and that’s really all that is on their minds, the money! Don’t get us wrong there are some awesome folks that do a great job taking care of bands..You know who you are and we think you are Outstanding!

But on the other hand these other folks know that bands just want to play and most will play for FREE or for little of nothing! Just to have a crowd in front of them. This is called giving it away! No matter how you look at it.. Mean huh, Sorry!

Reality Check Bands
OK, Here is the reality check..You are in a band with some of the best buddies ever, just like one big family. The band practices several times a month, writing and banging out new tunes. Also, buying new gear and trying to get that sound that makes your band unique. That is truly awesome! There is no better feeling than having your own band, you feel like you could conquer the world with your music..Yeah Baby!

Well, all the sudden your band is ready to go play a show and you hookup with either another band and open up for them or you throw a show of your own for all of your friends and family. After the show you are praised for how great your band sounded, so this completely pumps the whole band and your ready to hit the road and tour. Anything, you just want to keep playing live.. There is no greater feeling on earth than playing in front a of a crowd digging your band..Best high ever!

Now back to business
Ask yourself or ask the band..Did I or we make in money? The reason we bring this buzz kill up is. Someone made the money if there was a crowd..Right! Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out at all, does it.

Here is our point
Don’t give it away all the time, You have to at first to get the ball rolling and every band that ever was had to at some point. Just think about this all the time, money and effort put into your band..You are worth the respect to get paid!

Arkansas Internet Radio is live!!
We started broadcasting Monday March 2nd 2009 at 11:32am 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

This is a pretty new concept for us at Arkansas Internet Radio and we know it’s new to the state of Arkansas. Our goal is to bring Arkansas bands and listeners together in one location.

As we sign up bands to broadcast on Arkansas Internet Radio, We will also be updating the Website, Since we did launch it a bit earlier than was anticipated. We just couldn’t wait to get this set up and running..

Arkansas Internet Radio is located in Little Rock, Arkansas and works on a volunteer base to make up the broadcast staff. Meaning, everyone is working for Free..Arkansas Internet Radio is accepting donations and offering advertisement/banners for Arkansas bands and local advertisers for the future of this broadcast..So, please if you like the broadcast and feel it could do something great for Arkansas’ music scene..Please donate and buy ads/banners.. bandwidth is not cheap..
